How the night unfolds

Polls close
Élections Québec begins publishing results poll by poll. The official source refreshes every two to five minutes; this page follows the same cadence.
- 8:15 p.m.
The first boxes
A lead of a few hundred votes means nothing yet. Polling stations are not alike, and the order they report in manufactures mirages — this is the hour of the night when raw numbers mislead most.

The moment a riding clears our certainty threshold, it is called and changes colour on the map. Close races wait, sometimes for a long time.

The count riding by riding, the composition of the National Assembly, and the gap between our pre-election projection and the actual result.
When do we call a winner?
Being ahead in the count is not enough. We only call a winner when nothing left to count can change the result in that riding.
- Called
The lead can no longer be overtaken with the polls still to count: the riding is called and changes colour.
- Too close
When it comes down to a few hundred votes, we wait. Better late than wrong.
- Checked
Every call is reviewed by a person before it appears on the page.
